After nearly a decade of running shops in Pembroke, Carmarthen and most recently Narberth, local furniture-making shop, Uniqueworks, is set to close at the end of this month.

Lower footfall, due to public worries around Brexit and the economy has contributed to the decision. “People are more cautious about making purchases at the moment and are deciding to wait and see before spending,” said Jake Humphries, furniture-maker and co-founder. “We will be the third shop to close in Narberth this month”

Uniqueworks specialises in making hand-crafted pieces of furniture from Welsh wood and has made commissions for Pembroke Castle and The Botanic Garden of Wales.  “Our shop has always been pretty unique, in that we actually make from scratch ourselves, almost everything that is stocked in it – and just about every other item we’ve ever sold was made within a 22-mile radius of the front door. We’ve been able to give a home to some other great local craftspeople’s work, for instance, those amazing driftwood lamp displays, which have actually stopped traffic in the street!’’

“We’ll be really sad the day we leave the shop, but we hope to push forward with all our bespoke furniture work and seeing customers directly at our workshops in Pembroke Dock.’’

A Sale of stock at the shop will go on until the last week of March.
